Top 8 Essential Oils to Freshen Up Your Home, Car or Office

Have you ever walked into someone’s house and immediately felt at home? Or perhaps you are looking for that fresh clean scent in your own home or often on a regular basis?

The best way to do this is by using pure organic essential oils in an aromatherapy nebulizer. Here, we’ll share with you a few ideas on what oils can offer the most appealing scents as well as some of the healing benefits of various oils.

How to Find an Oil that You Love

If you are new to the world of essential oils, you will probably not be sure where to start. And this is completely okay! The truth is that it’s fairly easy to figure out what some oils will smell like. We can start with some of the most common, useful and well-researched oils and go from there.

1. Lavender products can be found in many health stores, and it’s flowery, sweet scent probably already familiar.

2. Bergamot may sound like something exotic, but it’s actually just a member of the orange family. It has a sweet, tangy and fresh scent.

3. Tea Tree is an excellent and practical antiseptic type of oil. Though it has many practical purposes, it’s actually quite pungent, and possibly not the best choice if you are purchasing oils for air fresheners.

4. Spearmint and peppermint differ slightly from each other, but both have plenty of useful and healing properties and can make a room smell beautiful.

5. Lemongrass is another wonderful choice for an air freshener – if you want to know how it smells, many Thai supermarkets carry it.

6. If you like flowery scents, both geranium and jasmine can make a room smell like flowers, but can also be quite sweet, so you may want to consider blending them.

7. Rosemary and thyme each have plenty of healing benefits, but they can be quite pungent and not to everyone’s taste. If you want to know how they smell before you buy you can easily find the herbs in most supermarkets.

8. Sandalwood and frankincense are examples of grounding, musky and earthy scents. They can be quite grounding and as such are good for using in bedrooms and meditation spaces.

A few other scents that are probably already familiar and have plenty of beneficial properties (besides just smelling nice) include cinnamon, pine, clary sage, grapefruit, and eucalyptus.

How to Make a DIY Room Freshener

Purchasing an essential oil nebulizer is only one option. You can also create a personalized blend or use pure oils in sprays.

Here are a couple of suggestions for blends:

  • For holiday parties, consider using a few drops of pine with some clove or cinnamon, then balancing it out with about 8 drops of orange oil
  • For sleeping or relaxing, use 2 drops of geranium and 4 drops each of sandalwood and lavender.

How to Buy Your Essential Oil Diffuser

Home diffusers come in many shapes, sizes, and styles. You may even want to purchase a car aromatherapy diffuser if you spend a lot of time in there, or if it tends to get dirty easily. In addition, don’t put them near heat or use diffusers that use heat

Glass essential oil diffusers are usually the best choice because the material is non-porous and won’t leach into the oils, destroying their purity. And it’s not only the oils that you should be worrying about: some plastic heat-based diffusers have the potential to create toxic compounds which you could then inhale.
