Organic Holy Basil Essential Oil

Our organic holy basil essential oil is steam-distilled from the holy basil plant (Ocimum tenuiflorum). This popular herb is native to India and cultivated through Southeast Asia. Traditionally, holy basil is used therapeutically in Ayurvedic medicine. Holy basil is also known as Tulsi, who is the avatar of Lakshmi in Hinduism. Those who practice Hinduism often plant it in their garden as a part of worship.  

Aromatically, holy basil oil has a rich herbaceous scent similar to sweet basil but stronger. Inhaling holy basil oil may bring notes of cinnamon, clove, and eucalyptus. Holy basil oil is used in meditative practices but can also be energizing. Use it during energizing yoga practices, for any type of meditation, or simply to clear your head. 

Uses & Benefits

• Create a calming, cleansing atmosphere by blending basil with a citrus oil or clary sage and adding it into a diffuser.
• Holy basil oil may be used for protection and strength in spiritual practice and rituals. 
• Add a few drops of holy basil with eucalyptus into a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam. This can be used as a wellness facial, or to ease headaches and colds. 
• Basil has potent antiinflammatory properties. 
• Use a few drops of basil in water as a mouthwash. 
• Rub a few drops of diluted basil and frankincense oil into your palms or the soles of your feet for grounding and meditation.

Holy basil oil is considered safe when used externally. We recommend diluting holy basil in a carrier oil like jojoba or almond oil for topical use. Take precautions if you have allergies to this family of plants or have low blood sugar.
